BANGKOK — In a move that marks the most significant multinational expansion in the 70-year history of the brand, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has officially confirmed that the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 14, 2026.
The announcement, made on March 31, 2026, signals a bold new chapter for the world’s largest live music event. After years of speculation and developmental delays, the contest will finally bring the iconic Eurovision format to a region representing over 600 million people.
The Vision: A 70th Anniversary Milestone
The timing of the launch is no coincidence. As the original Eurovision Song Contest prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary in Vienna this May, organizers are looking to Asia as the next frontier for cultural exchange.
“As we mark the 70th anniversary, it feels especially meaningful to open this next chapter with Asia—a region rich in culture, creativity, and talent,” said Martin Green CBE, Director of the Eurovision Song Contest. Green emphasized that the new contest is about building a platform that reflects the "voices, identities, and ambitions" of the region while staying true to the "United by Music" spirit that has defined the brand since 1956.
Bangkok was selected as the host city due to its unique position as a global hub where tradition and modern innovation coexist. The Grand Final will be held at the state-of-the-art IdeaLive venue.
The event is a massive collaborative effort involving:
- The EBU & Voxovation: Overseeing the brand and format.
- Channel 3 Thailand: Serving as the official host broadcaster.
- S2O Productions: Managing the large-scale live production.
The format will mirror the European original: each participating country will hold national selections to choose an original song and artist. These representatives will then compete on the Bangkok stage, with a winner decided by a 50/50 split between professional juries and a massive regional televote.

The EBU maintains that Eurovision Asia has been in the works since 2017 and is a purely commercial and cultural evolution intended to connect the "passionate music cultures" of Asia, which have been fueled by the global rise of K-pop and localized pop movements.
The Road to Bangkok
As the countdown to November 14, 2026, begins, the eyes of the musical world turn East. With no comparable pan-Asian music platform currently in existence, Eurovision Asia is poised to become one of the region's largest entertainment spectacles. For the EBU, the goal is simple: to prove that the universal language of a three-minute pop song can unite a continent as diverse as Asia, just as it has done for Europe for seven decades.
